After being told that you need to book schoolies over a year in advanced we hurried to get a place at somewhere decent, we ended up booking at "Islander" apparently one the most popular places.
Schoolies is an Australian thing where everyone goes and celebrates that highschool, and the end of year exams are over. Unlike American schools in Australia what you do in your last year is the only contributing factor into what university you get into, so we don't need to spend our whole highschool protecting our GPA or perfecting interview style. If you get above a certain percentile in your examinations then your in. So since we are under so much pressure in our last year it only makes sense that we relieve that pressure in an equally climactic way, that is getting drunk for seven days non-stop.
Sounds awesome. If I ever go to Australia I'll be sure to go and take part in the festivities!

ReplyDeleteI'm jealous in a way for your system, but I was able to go over to my local university to take some advanced mathematics and computer science classes my senior year, and not much else. I don't think I would have been able to do that in Australia.
